2009-06 Agrément Certificate

Agrément South Africa handed over a certificate to RoadCem, as a sign that their product is fit-for-purpose

RoadCem is a brand name for non-traditional soil stabiliser additive for road base construction that is always used with cement. It reacts with cement to bond in-situ soil material that is water resistance, elasticity and strength properties. RoadCem is manufactured in the Netherlands in compliance with the specification of ISO 9001 and ISO 14002 standards and imported into South Africa by PowerCem Southern Africa. It is delivered in powder form packed in 25 kg bags.

RoadCem is a patented blend consisting of "Earth-Alkaloids" elements and "Zeolites", complemented with complex compounds, which reacts with cement and supports the normal ion exchange chemical process until equilibrium is reached and neutralisation has occurred by the positive ions. This complex chemical reactions and interaction between the cement and the constituents of RoadCem rapidly produces a needle-like crystalline cementitious matrix. The matrix has good interlock and generates significant improvements in strength, and also allows for more flexibility than in traditional cement based or only cement treated materials.

The complex chemical compounds within the RoadCem ensure that any contaminants are chemically solubilised and mobilised and made available in the cementitious reaction process. The contaminants subsequently become encapsulated within the non-water soluble hydrous cementitious product. Leaching potential is significantly reduced and in some cases eliminated completely.

RoadCem is spread by hand prior to/during mixing with cement. The contractor depending on the size of the work, may want it pre-blended with cement and may request a cement manufacturer to do it. However, caution must be exercised due to the fact that RoadCem is considered to be in competition with cement. Alternatively the contractor may want to spread it with a separate piece of equipment (farming fertiliser spreader) prior to/during the cement mixing process.

RoadCem decreases the reaction time between cement and soil to ensure a rapid reaction and production of the cementitious products. The word "rapid" in this case refers to the cross linking aspect of RoadCem and it should be noted that it does not adversely affect the setting of cement. RoadCem is available as an optimised proprietary blend (in powder form) or can be blended to suit site specific conditions to ensure the desired results.
