South Africa - Rustenburg Kosterroad
The National Road Authorities (NRA) in South Africa have over decades experience in all type of modern constructions based on use of primary and secondary aggregates, asphalt and concrete. The increase of traffic and change in climate as well many regulations and restrictions on availability of materials makes that the NRA is keen and progressive on search for sophisticated and effective systems which are proven on base of material specific characteristics successfully implemented in f.e. mono layer systems.
The NRA is also taken in consideration tracing the most durable system with the maximum cost effective impact. On base of intensive study, visiting projects and research, RoadCem (PowerCem based Technology) was chosen for a intersection at one of the most critical sections in order to demonstrate the capability of RoadCem under all circumstances as the end solution.
The section at Koster Road demonstrated that the existing highway can be very fast and effectively treated in a durable monolithically construction with a thin asphalt layer on top. The road is designed for a lifetime cycle of 20 years with a safety factor of 2.
One production can be execute approx. 1km a day depending of the matrix.
The chosen construction was 250mm RoadCem stabilization. The road could be released for traffic after 4 hours. The durability is tested by NFM and Civil Lab and estimated at 30 years lifecycle.
RoadCem creates a new generation of durable roads with a tailor made design lifetime !
