Projects

Up grade of local infrastructure for heavy trucks

Country
: Czech Republic
Location
: Plzen
Year
: 2014
Product
: RoadCem

In western Czech Republic a new railway infrastructure is planned. Part of this project, near Plzen, is a new tunnel construction that is going to be built. Construction traffic will also use some existing road infrastructure. Therefore, the local infrastructure needs to be upgraded in order to be able to bear the high loads of the construction traffic.

PowerCem Technologies is requested to reconstruct one of the current roads that need to be upgraded. The length of this road construction is approximately 2100 m. The current pavement construction is an asphalt surface of 0.05m on top of a granular foundation 0.2 m that is on top of a Clayey Sand soil.

Using RoadCem, one of the products of PowerCem Technologies, ables the reconstruction of a pavement construction by using the existing material that is from the existing road. The current asphalt will be crushed and mixed with RoadCem and cement. Due to this construction method, with in-site material, the construction time is limited and the costs are minimised.

The road was reconstructed in 3 days. The existing material (asphalt and granular base) is mixed with RoadCem and cement. The thickness of the RoadCem stabilisation is 0.25 m. After the RoadCem stabilisation was constructed, an asphalt surface layer of 0.05 m was put on top of the stabilisation.

The RoadCem pavement construction must be able to bear 100 heavy trucks a day, during the construction time (5 years) of the tunnel and after that the road must have a lifetime of another 5 years. No deformation, no cracks, no potholes, and no rutting are accepted.

Due to the fact that the RoadCem construction was performed as expected, high quality, short construction time, high economic profit compared with traditional construction, the client is now constructing more roads with RoadCem stabilisations.
